FARA General Assembly

The General Assembly (GA) is FARA’s supreme governance body, convened every three years, with interim responsibilities delegated to the Board of Directors. Since its inception in 2002, FARA has held nine. General Assemblies across the continent are hosted in rotation by member states.

Purpose and Objectives
The General Assembly and Africa Agriculture Science Week will aim to:

  • Provide a platform for networking, knowledge exchange, and consensus building among agricultural STI actors.
  • Review progress, share innovations, and map a forward-looking agenda for African agriculture.
  • Convene the statutory GA business meeting to guide FARA’s governance and endorse its strategic and programmatic directions.
  • Reinforce FARA’s visibility and convening role on the continental stage.
  • Ratify the appointment of a new Chairperson
  • Approve the composition of the Board of Directors for 2026-2029
  • Endorse FARA’s strategic direction for the next three years.
  • Host a Continental Agriculture Innovation Exhibition [Provide a platform for research institutions, agribusinesses, farmer organizations, and development partners from across Africa to showcase cutting-edge innovations, technologies, and success stories that are driving agricultural transformation]
  • In collaboration with the Government, organize a “Country Day”. One of the days is dedicated to highlighting the country’s agricultural achievements, innovations, policies, and investment opportunities, while fostering dialogue with regional and global partners on scaling successful models and strengthening collaboration. This is capped off by a dinner organized by the host country.
