The Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA), in collaboration with the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is pleased to announce the 9th Africa Agriculture Science Week (AASW9), to be held alongside the 10th FARA General Assembly (GA) from 27–30 July 2026 at the Abuja Continental Hotel in Abuja, Nigeria.
Held every three years, the Africa Agriculture Science Week is Africa’s premier platform for advancing agricultural science, technology, innovation, and partnerships. Convened by FARA—the apex continental organization mandated to coordinate and facilitate agricultural research and innovation in Africa—AASW brings together policymakers, researchers, farmers, agribusinesses, development partners, private sector leaders, youth, and civil society to reflect on progress, exchange knowledge, showcase innovations, and shape the future of Africa’s agrifood systems.
This year’s event will be held under the theme “Innovations and Partnerships for Resilient and Sustainable Agrifood Systems in Africa,” highlighting the vital role of science, technology, and strategic collaboration in building productive, climate-resilient, and inclusive food systems. Discussions throughout the week will focus on emerging agricultural technologies and innovations, climate-resilient agrifood systems, nutrition and urban food systems, and the policies, financing, institutional capacities, and inclusive partnerships needed to scale impact across the continent.

Participants can look forward to a dynamic programme featuring high-level plenary sessions, keynote addresses, ministerial dialogues, technical parallel sessions, partner-led side events, and an Innovation Marketplace showcasing cutting-edge agricultural technologies and solutions. The programme will also include pre-events, networking and partnership-building opportunities, as well as a dedicated ‘Nigeria Day’, during which Nigeria will showcase its agricultural achievements, innovations, and investment opportunities.
Running concurrently with AASW9, the 10th FARA General Assembly will convene FARA’s highest governance body to endorse the organisation’s strategic direction, approve governance decisions, and strengthen continental leadership in agricultural research and innovation.
AASW9 is open to a broad spectrum of stakeholders, including research and extension organisations, universities, government institutions, farmer organisations, agribusinesses, development partners, private sector actors, investors, innovators, media, and civil society organisations. By bringing these diverse actors together, the event aims to strengthen partnerships, promote investment, accelerate the adoption of scalable innovations, and reinforce Africa’s collective commitment to resilient and sustainable agrifood systems.
As Africa continues to confront the challenges of climate change, food insecurity, rapid urbanisation, and evolving market demands, AASW9 offers a unique opportunity to align science, policy, finance, and partnerships around practical solutions that will drive agricultural transformation across the continent.
FARA warmly invites stakeholders, partners, innovators, and investors to participate in this landmark continental gathering and contribute to shaping the future of Africa’s agrifood systems.
