The apex continental organization facilitating and coordinating agricultural research and innovation advancement on the continent is the Forum for Agricultural Research in Africa (FARA).

The award of the FARA Leadership Prize for Advancing Agricultural Science, Technology, and Innovation in Africa is given in recognition of the significant role that visionary leadership played in driving outstanding achievements in African agriculture and unlocking its wealth-creating potential.

 

The first and only laureate of the FARA Leadership Prize is Dr Akinwumi Adesina, President of the African Development Bank Group, who is well-known for his visionary leadership and enthusiasm for Africa’s transformation. The award was present to him in Kigali, Rwanda by the Prime Minister in June 2016.

FARA has been around for 25 years and has its headquarters in Accra, Ghana. Its unique mission is to strengthen connections between business, science, technology, and innovation through the Eighth Africa Agribusiness and Science Week (AASW8), Africa’s own Agribusiness Platform.
